Currently in: Berkshire, United Kingdom
After an incredible four years spent travelling around the world, starting in South America and ending in New Zealand, I decided to return to the UK in January 2018.
Coming home was a bumpy ride, to say the least. I didn’t know where I wanted to live, I didn’t know what I wanted to do and for the life of me, I couldn’t find a job.
Then I had my light bulb moment. If no-one would give me a job, I needed to make one for myself. So I decided to go freelance. I got set up, started reaching out to potential clients and by March I was being flown out to Portugal on my first assignment!
Going freelance also meant giving myself the gift of freedom, which I took full advantage of. I bounced from place to place, making homes across the south of England. I secured house sits over the summer, including one in a sprawling 17th century farmhouse looking after dogs, ducks and chickens. It was like I was travelling again, but in my home country.
Then, I got a text from a friend who’d come across a job I’d be perfect for. I mulled it over for days, torn between maintaining the nomadic lifestyle I’d built for myself or going to work for an international company which could open the door to an exciting future (and maybe some travel too!).
Ultimately, I chose the job, which is how I’ve ended up settled in Berkshire since September 2018. However, I still freelance to keep my options open. Being a full-time digital nomad isn’t off the cards just yet! And if I do go back to it, I’d definitely live somewhere more exciting than the rainy UK…
So. Right now, home is the south east of England. However, that doesn’t mean I can’t put my four years of travel experience to good use!
